While he might not have known the wish worked at first, once he did his mind didn’t go to I gotta get her out of this wish, his mind went from I have to change this wish. Bear didn’t care about Nikki as a person he care about the idea of being in a relationship with Nikki

That’s interesting I interpreted it as her being so trapped in her body by the wish she is unable to be her own person. The lack of autonomy because of bears wish makes her unable to do anything but love him. That’s the way I saw it

I find that this movie has similar themes to Mouthwashing, in that the perpetrators are given the perfect scapegoat (of their own orchestration or otherwise) to avoid taking responsibility for their own actions and desires. The horror stems from the perception(s) versus reality, and how spectacle is used to hide the actual inciting incident in both pieces of media.
