@maiyamason: I have never really spoken about anything like this and honestly I’ve been lucky to not have experienced much racism. I feel nervous to speak about being Māori sometimes because I don’t feel Māori enough… but I want to! Just adding my 2 cents I guess - I love @Joe Daymond

the identity crisis is so real. i was born in vietnam and spent the first 13 years of my life there. i’ve now lived in nz for almost the same amount of time and i’m getting my citizenship next year.when i go back to vietnam i don’t feel vietnamese enough, i also don’t speak the language fluently anymore. but when i’m here i don’t feel kiwi enough. and yup, also experienced not-so-subtle racism in high school lol.

Also, being afakasi/mixed is a complicated journey in life, especially in our identity and especiallyyyy as young people!!! But what is important is that it’s one that’s in your control and not by the words and actions of others. Do things in your time and when feels comfortable for you <3 xx

As a pākehā with zero Māori blood, I’ve always been in awe of Māori culture, so it genuinely makes me sad seeing people invalidate those who are part of it and make them feel “not Māori enough” to represent their own culture. Lots of aroha to you 🫶🏻

Feeling not māori enough is a direct result of being colonized. One day you will connect and it will come through your whakapapa. The tupuna are with you, standing with you always. Take a look into your whānau 💖❤️

I totally hear you e hoa, I remember feeling like this too very heavily. Just a reminder, you have every right to speak to issues that affect Māori, because you are Māori. There is no such thing as being not-enough or too much in Te Ao Māori, come as you are and we’ll meet you where you are. Sending you all the hugs and love. I know how hard this is to unlearn x

It’s not about being “enough” gurl. Cos you are. It’s a disconnect. But the cool thing is, you can reconnect. And fill your cup. Take a leap of faith so you can look back and say “I’m really glad I done that.”

Never feel that your not enough , you are Maori and be proud . Did you know , alot of Maori have never been brought up in their culture and they feel the same but its never too late to learn .

I knew you were Māori the first time I saw you come across my timeline! I fell in love with your energy from the jump (first seeing you making content for Preloved Charlies). You are Māori enough and you have every right to speak on your experience. Thank you for sharing, it is so relatable. Wishing you all the success, peace and happiness in the world!!! ❤️xx
