Postpartum said: surprise. 😂🤍 I thought I knew what I was getting into. I really did. I had done the reading. I had watched the TikToks. I was aware that it would be hard. I had a plan for the hard. What I did not have a plan for: The specific exhaustion that makes you put your keys in the fridge and your milk on the counter and stand in the kitchen genuinely confused for forty five seconds. The way crying at a cereal commercial feels completely reasonable and also slightly concerning. The fact that "sleeping when the baby sleeps" is advice given by people who have clearly never had a load of laundry and a dishwasher full of bottles waiting. The identity shift that nobody warned me was coming — the way you look in the mirror and recognize yourself and also don't, all at once. The loneliness. The specific, particular loneliness of loving someone this much while feeling like nobody around you fully understands what you're carrying right now. That last one was the one that got me. Because everything else I could white-knuckle through. But the alone part — the 3am part, the "is it just me" part — that was the part I didn't have a plan for. Someone recommended an app. I was skeptical. I downloaded it anyway. The map showed me hundreds of lights — moms awake right now, in their own version of this, all over the country. And something in me that had been quietly going numb just... thawed. Not magic. Just company. Which turns out to be exactly what I needed. If postpartum surprised you too — you're in good company. A lot of us. 🤍 👇 What's the most unhinged thing postpartum has done to you? Drop it — the comments are a safe space 😂🤍 #postpartum #momhumor #newmomlife #honestmotherhood #exhaustedmom
