Karina moved immediately, one arm wrapping securely around Winter’s waist before she could even settle properly. “Careful,” she murmured. Winter curled against her chest without answering, face pressing into the warmth of her shoulder. Karina looked down at her. “You should be asleep.” “I was,” Winter mumbled. “But you weren’t there.” Something in Karina’s expression softened again. Dangerously soft. The kind no one in the company was supposed to see. Winter’s hand lazily reached for Karina’s wrist, playing with the sleeve of her dress shirt absentmindedly. “You work too much,” she whispered. Karina let out the quietest breath through her nose. Probably the closest thing to a laugh anyone in the room had ever heard from her. Then she adjusted Winter higher against her carefully, making sure she was comfortable before looking back toward the frozen employees outside the office. Her expression returned to calm immediately. “Leave the documents,” she said. The assistant nodded too quickly. “Y-yes, Ms. Yoo.” No one moved slowly after that. The moment the door closed again, the office became quiet. Winter was already half asleep in her lap. Karina glanced down at her for a long moment before reaching for her abandoned coffee and moving it farther away from Winter automatically. Then she pulled a blanket from the back of her chair and draped it gently around her shoulders. Winter sighed softly against her chest. Karina’s hand rested against her back instantly. Steady.
