In long jump, the jump is measured from the takeoff board/foul line to the nearest mark in the landing area made by the athlete. Under NFHS track rules: * The official measures to the closest break in the sand caused by any part of your body. * If you land and then fall backward, the measurement is taken to that backward mark if it’s closer to the board. * Hair by itself does not count because it is not considered part of the body for measurement purposes. * However, if a hair bow, clip, headband, or other item touches the sand and leaves the nearest mark, that mark can count.
