@fromcionnehours: perhaps the cruelest discovery i have ever made is that people do not leave one another cleanly; they scatter themselves into the bloodstream of those who loved them until absence becomes less of a disappearance and more of a relocation, and i suppose that is why i no longer believe the body was built to forget, for even now i continue carrying versions of you in gestures that are no longer mine, in pauses i did not inherit from myself, in the strange instinct to turn toward someone who is no longer there. and though the world insists on calling this grief, i think it is something far older than it—the law that once a person has lived inside you long enough, every future version of yourself must learn to exist around the evidence of their stay. #writing #prose #fyp #4u #foryou

how do you even come up, learn or stumble about these in books or the internet? i am very amazed of the thought process this consumed during the construction and the final writing. hands down, cionne.

i’m honestly stunned this is blowing up, but thank you for loving my theory so much. just a quick disclaimer: this is entirely a fictional concept i crafted for literary purposes, not a scientifically proven fact—though if a researcher ever wants to take it seriously, i wouldn’t mind at all. also, i’ve been reading through your thoughts, but i don’t quite have the headspace to reply right now. i hope to be back soon to chat with everyone. until then, thank you for reading and loving my work. please don’t download, screenshot, or repost this on other platforms without my consent.

reading this made me bawl my eyes out… this is such a masterpiece, so beautifully written. you’re a genius! the line, “every future version of yourself must learn to grow around the space they once occupied,” hit me so deeply. it made me realize that healing isn’t about erasing the space someone once held in u, it’s learning to grow around it little by little. it’s sooo realistic they don’t completely leave us, they just remain in the small ways we love, remember, and move through life. and somewhere in the corner of your heart, the pain slowly makes room for gratitude—for every love, every memory, and all the little silly things u guys had. :>>

So genuine question lang, is it possible that you recognize the person you loved the most in the people who come after them? And not because they are the same ha? but because something about them feels familiar enough to touch an old part of you, and in that way you became attached to this new person. Kaya some cycle repeats again because someone once changed you so deeply that their presence never truly left. Like it lingers in the way someone thinks, the way they laugh at your dumbest jokes, or even in the small ordinary way like how they make their coffee in the morning. So maybe (just maybe) we’re not really attached to the new person. Maybe we just recognize fragments of the person we loved the most in them, and mistake that familiarity for love.

love was never about permanence; it was about leaving a presence so profound that even absence cannot erase it—which is true, as there are people who leave our lives yet never truly vanish, remaining within us among the echoes we carry; a sorrowful reality woven into the stories of countless hearts, all of which knows this pain too well.

Hello, you have a gift for articulating things that feel impossible to put into words. I’ll be thinking about 'the vestigial presence theory' for a long time. 🙂‍↕️

people leave versions of themselves inside other people” is such a crazy way to describe love, but it makes so much sense. love the work! at some point made me feel so much better 🥺🥰

such a nice read! We really become something that cannot be approached by any formula to untangle some sort of a mathematical aspect. Time is a number which is the quantifiable, and memories are the qualitative one. Through and through, I think your theory and proposed formula might provide the parameters on how to approach the "constant" feeling/memory/nostalgia of someone who was now far gone from the life you shared of him/her much like being part of a formula that equates to identify the why/how but often misses the point to extract an answer. An answer to a far-fetched solution of forgetting.

I have got to say! how very poetic and well written this is! I am usually a mean-eyed pedant, readiest to judge the writing of others, but ... not this time. This time I'm just human.

Honestly, it’s so strange how life works. Ever since we parted ways, my music taste has totally changed. I ended up adopting his playlist, which is hilarious because I used to tell him his taste in music was so weird. Now I see that it didn't just grow on me it literally became my taste.
