@threadofeverything: Psalm 91 says "under His wings." Most people picture a mother bird with chicks. The Hebrew says something different. The word "wings" in Psalm 91 is the same Hebrew word used for the cherubim's wings that covered the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies. The "secret place of the Most High" was a real room. For fifteen hundred years only one man could enter it once a year. Then a Friday afternoon happened and the veil tore from top to bottom. The secret place is open now. I wonder whether those words from Psalm 91 about God’s wings, protection, trust, and refuge were spoken in that household for generations, passed from one family member to another in times of fear, uncertainty, and hope. Perhaps they became more than a psalm. Perhaps they became a family language of faith, comfort, and confidence in God’s care.
