I've done the same with my son. I also taught him compassion, empathy and to have objective thinking. I also taught him that he is important, but not more important than everyone else. Be a good listener, be self sufficient when ever possible, that way life can't take away what he has earned. I tell him I love him every day. He's now 32 and is a fine young man.
