@pualaleapanaewa: Come with me to watch @Phantom of the Opera North American tour, narrated in ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i and English. May is API month so I figure I do a lil vlog ma ka ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i to practice. So cool to have now seen Asian actors as Carlotta (Midori Marsh @Midori Marsh, NA Tour 2026) and Christine (Ali Ewoldt, Broadway 2016). Means a lot to see that as an Asian-Polynesian actor who still has dreams of doing professional musical theatre sometime down the line. We are here—even in iconic shows like this! Midori Marsh brought a fresh new take on Carlotta I’ve never seen before in the multiple times I’ve seen the show live, and concerningly more than hundreds maybe thousands of times I’ve seen any recorded production of the show. She was hilarious and made me feel so much empathy for Carlotta. Just so well played. Also—INSANE pipes I love seeing opera singers play Carlotta! She instantly became my fave Carlotta. Isaiah Bailey was also a standout for me as the Phantom. His voice is absolutely mesmerizing which is perfect for the Phantom. He rightfully gave me the creeps and icks but laterally also balanced moments of pity despite how horrific of a person Erik is. All around—job well done to this cast! So wish Hawai’i was added on that tour stop list 😭 I can’t get enough… Gets better every time I see it.
