Genuine question about movies - in scenes where someone is smoking, and they take a few takes, surely the cigarette or cigar has burned more - how, when they make retakes, do they make the cigarette burn consistently if that makes sense???

been in kitchens for almost 30 years. most of us use blue painters tape to label food containers. I wish I knew this tape trick 30 years ago!
