The movie did its job it left many people confused and with many questions unanswered which is what kanes backrooms version always does, like in his found footage there’s always something new something more that you want to know about.

The writing was awful. The car scene in act 1 acted too much as a thesis statement in an attempt to put clarity on the idea of the Backrooms when the therapy sessions were enough for it to not be too explanatory. The dinner scene in the final act was written hooorrribly and had no impact; Renate Reinsve’s monologue was written with the thought that just because her character is a therapist, they think she’s able to spew out lines as if it was as cut throat as they thought it was when it wasn’t. Her lines were logically interesting but had no emotional weight probably because they didn’t write enough scenes to show Clark’s process of losing his mind in the backrooms due to his unresolved trauma and isolation instead of the sudden jump of his turn in personality in order for Renzte Reinsve’s lines to actually matter. That was one of the only parts in the film that could’ve benefited from showcasing a bit more instead of making the audience fill in the gaps ourselves because it needed more emotional impact rather than a logical reasoning of why things happened the way they did. I think yall should watch more films or read more books.

I like the idea that the backrooms are built off the memories of the people who go there which is why it's forever expanding. That's just my thought tho i loved the movie for getting me to think

not to mention kane is 20 YEARS OLD, he did absolutely amazing. it genuinely scared me as someone who doesn’t get scared from horror movies anymore. it is an a24 movie which they are known to be trippy, people genuinely are, like you said, not understanding. they immediately resort to hating so that they don’t have to try to understand. it was a great movie and the cinematography was INSANE.

I think the movie aced the concept of psychological horror and the idea of dissociation and paranoia. The characters weren’t out of placed, they complemented the storyline so well, and the build up and climax of Clark’s insanity was handled so well. It had this creepy sort of calmness to it that the they captured so accurately that it’s hard to put into words. This movie was a wonderful experience and I honestly don’t understand the people that didn’t enjoy it and/or thought it was bad.

people are mad bc they opened too many cans of worms and just never really fleshed everything out fully, the movie could’ve been an extra 30-60 minutes and it would’ve left ppl more satisfied, the beginning pacing was slow so it just felt like they crammed a lot at the end when it sped up. the backrooms themselves don’t need any more explaining that’s not what is making ppl upset
