I think "what's the point" is about an official diagnosis instead of self/peer diagnosis. Why make it official when I can accommodate myself without?

I didnt get diagnosed but I was able to research it and figure out what applied to me and implement strategies to help. I have come a long way.

I have my assessment in three weeks. Every time I have asked for peace I have hurt someone's feelings by somehow making them feel unwanted, so I am at least hoping to learn how to ask without alienating people so much!

I had my assessment last Friday. Is it normal to feel this awful after? I'm completely exhausted and my tolerance for anything is 0. Could this be burnout?

I used to think that no one could block out noise, they just dealt with it better than me. Now I’m kinder to myself, knowing that some things are harder for me.

I always knew I didn't think like other people.
I was told I'm Autistic at 40 years old.
I'm grateful for that.
I struggled growing up, but If I had an excuse for my behaviour and choices, I'd have used it. Excessively.
I grew up learning how to be me, in a world that doesn't like me. It made me stronger, it led me to my wife.
It created my son.

autism runs in the family so we always wear headphones and only use the TV when there's a sleepover or family movie night.

That fan makes me want to cry! I keep earplugs in the bathroom for when I run that fan!

This happens in the car quite often and when my husband is driving, he says it’s unfair that I’ve turned the radio off. It’s very frustrating.

I've recently found out about sound overlay and its definately a problem for me, especially at work. I have tried earplugs but find I still have little patience for humans when it gets bad

Totally called out. I avoid the exhaust fan! Hate when someone is scrolling on phone with volume on. Drives me nuts.

How do you get assessed? Do you have to go through your doctor?

I had my 1st session and I’m wrecked 🥺 realizing there was an answer to why I’ve struggled so long. I grieve for my younger self, still trying to accept that the people in my life still will never understand

I have self diagnosed, cannot afford a formal diagnosis. Just admitting to myself has been enlightening and freeing.
