You'll move and feel your best when your core is strong, mobile, and stable. Your core muscles are the foundation of your body, and they play a crucial role in everything you do, from sitting, bending forward, and standing up straight to performing complex athletic movements. But what exactly is your core? It's not just your abs, although they are an important part. Your core is actually made up of a complex network of dozens of muscles connecting your knees, hips, pelvis, back, and ribs together. When these muscles work together harmoniously, you'll have a stable and powerful base to support your movements. How do all of these muscles work? Like any muscle, a core muscle’s job is to contract (shorten - think of your lower back contracting to stand up), lengthen (relax - think of lower back muscles relaxing so you can bend forward towards the ground), and stabilize (think of lower back muscles holding tension, so the spine is still during a squat.) How do you know if your core has lost function and needs work? If any movement pattern like sitting, standing, bending forward, twisting, lunging, squatting, or walking feels ‘off,’ painful, stiff, limited, or ‘unsafe,’ that’s a sign that your core has lost its ability to function properly. So, how do you train your core? Check out my last six posts to learn simple exercises to train your core. If you are looking for more of a complete solution to restoring core function, check out the link in my bio and learn more about my year-long course called The Movement Program. Whether you're a seasoned gym-goer or just starting out on your fitness journey, incorporate core training into your routine. Your body (and your future self) will thank you! 💪 #core #strength #mobility #Fitness #movement #therapy #fyp
