@panoramicafrica: Ever wondered how a medieval European-style castle ended up in the middle of Kaduna State? 👀 The story behind Kajuru Castle is genuinely fascinating. It wasn’t built by ancient kings or colonial armies. Instead, it was constructed between 1981 and 1989 by a German expatriate living in Nigeria, Gerhard Huebner. Huebner wanted a private luxury retreat, so he designed a Romanesque-style fortress perched high on a rocky ridge in Kaduna State. Here are three facts that make Kajuru Castle one of the most unusual landmarks in West Africa: 1️⃣ The Architecture The castle features authentic medieval elements, including a continuous curtain wall, crenellated watchtowers (those classic notched castle tops), and a central building known as a “keep.” 2️⃣ The Dungeon ⚔️ Yes — it has an actual dungeon and vaulted cellar, alongside a grand knight’s hall inspired by old European royal castles. 3️⃣ The Crocodile Pit 🐊 Near the entrance is a specially designed pit once intended to house live crocodiles, adding to the fortress-style defense aesthetic. The project took nearly a decade to complete, and today Kajuru Castle remains one of Nigeria’s most unique architectural landmarks. Would you visit for the history, the scenery, or just the infinity pool? 👇🏾 #KajuruCastle #fyp #NigerianHistory #ExploreNigeria #TravelNigeria
