I’d personally be cautious about adding hydrogen peroxide to prophy paste for rubber cup polishing unless there’s strong evidence supporting both efficacy and safety.
Hydrogen peroxide is acidic depending on the concentration and formulation, and combining it with an abrasive polishing agent, especially coarse paste, raises concerns about unnecessary enamel surface alteration, soft tissue irritation, and increased sensitivity. From an evidence-based perspective, I’m not aware of high-quality literature supporting peroxide slurry polishing as superior to conventional stain removal methods.
Current preventive dentistry principles generally emphasize minimally invasive approaches and preserving enamel integrity whenever possible. If stain removal requires aggressive polishing, it may be more appropriate to reassess the etiology of the stain and consider alternative evidence-supported methods instead of increasing chemical and abrasive exposure simultaneously.
Just because something trends online does not necessarily mean it aligns with evidence-based clinical practice or long-term patient outcomes.
