One of the biggest reasons I love somatic shaking and dancing is because it interrupts the pattern before it has a chance to become your whole day. Maybe you woke up anxious. Maybe you’re carrying stress from yesterday. Maybe your mind is already spiralling before you’ve even had your coffee. When you shake your body, dance, bounce, jump, or move freely, you’re sending your nervous system a new message. You’re breaking the loop. Instead of reinforcing the same thoughts, emotions, and tension over and over again, you’re creating a new experience. Movement helps discharge some of the stress energy your body has been holding onto. It gets you out of your head and back into your body. It increases circulation, encourages deeper breathing, and can boost mood-enhancing chemicals like dopamine and endorphins that help you feel more energized, connected, and present. And maybe my favourite part… It reminds your body that it doesn’t have to stay stuck. You can shift and create a different experience. The best part? You don’t need to be a “good” at it. In fact… the sillier and weirder, the more free, the better. The more ridiculous you feel, the more you may laugh as well, which is the best medicine. And the more you let yourself move without worrying what it looks like… The more you’re teaching your nervous system that it’s safe to let go, to play, and to take up space and to express more fully. So tomorrow morning, before you decide what kind of day you’re going to have… Put on your favourite song. Shake it out. Dance like nobody’s watching. You might be surprised by how much you can shift your state in just three minutes. 🤍
