@thisismoney: AI consultant reveals a client accidentally spent over £300 million in a single month after failing to set employee limits on Claude usage 🤖 The staggering bill reportedly came after unrestricted access to Anthropic’s AI assistant allowed thousands of employees to generate massive volumes of requests, driving costs through token based pricing models. Without spending caps in place, usage quickly spiralled into hundreds of millions as teams integrated the tool across day to day operations. The incident has sparked fresh concern over AI cost controls, with experts warning that businesses are still learning how to manage runaway usage at enterprise scale. #ThisIsMoney #Money #News #UK

I'm glad the AI bubble appears to be cooling off sooner rather than later. If the hype had continued unchecked, it could have displaced a significant number of jobs. Companies are starting to realize that AI may be powerful, but it doesn't provide accountability in the way people do. With employees, there are clear expectations and consequences. You can recognize great work, reward strong performance, coach people when they fall short, and ultimately hold someone accountable for outcomes. AI doesn't operate within that framework. If an AI system makes a costly mistake, who exactly is responsible? You can't motivate it, mentor it, or hold it accountable. It may sound cynical, but human workers bring something beyond productivity: ownership and responsibility. When things go well, they deserve credit. When things go wrong, there is someone who can investigate, explain, and help fix the problem. That's a dimension of work that AI alone cannot replace.

This will be cause companies to rethink their hiring strategy for Software Engineers. It’ll become cheaper to bring in Junior Engineers with the rising cost of tokens/credits

The idea of per token pricing is just so ridiculously fraudulent. If the limiting factor is the energy being consumed then the pricing should be per unit of energy consumed, period. 🔥🤌
