@wired: Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket exploded during a launch pad test at Cape Canaveral on Thursday night, sending a massive fireball into the sky. The uncrewed rocket was undergoing a routine “hotfire test,” in which engines are briefly ignited while the vehicle remains secured to the ground. Blue Origin described the incident as an “anomaly” and said all personnel were accounted for, with no injuries reported. The explosion is the latest setback for Blue Origin, the space company founded by Jeff Bezos. New Glenn is designed to carry satellites into orbit and was being prepared for an upcoming mission that would have launched Amazon’s Leo satellites into low-Earth orbit.
