I don’t think it’s a scam by any means. That’s my business now after leaving corporate. However, I do think many people make it sound easier to execute than it’s. Not everybody is successful at it, and it takes a really long time to start seeing progress. I think it’s important to have more transparency about the realities of pursuing consulting.

Consulting today is more like being an employee hired to do a specific task to completion that incurred no long term liabilities like health insurance or retirement. There's no drama and if it's the wrong fit they shitcan you. It's a huge win for most organizations because it's easy to capitalize our expense/time to an organization.

I do feel there are a lot of “consultants” who did a small role for 2-3 years and then created a consulting business. I’m 22 years in the industry. This is not my first rodeo. Asking the consultants background is super important.

I tend to be brought into fractional work that is a combination of leadership, program management, and technical at times to solve sticky complex problems. I’m not needed long term, or even full time. But I get embedded on teams and it’s a lot of fun.

I’m a fractional CMO, consulted with a client of mine for a few months, reformatted the business, and just added $93k in ARR for them. If that’s a scam then I am doing it so wrong 😆

We all agree on the hate we have for the big consulting companies. They hire 24 years olds to audit your 24 yeas of work experience and the answer is always to cut cost.
