INNES HOUSE 🏴 Long before it became the stunning estate we see today, Innes House was the ancestral home of the Innes family, who have roots stretching back to the 12th century. The family name is believed to come from the Gaelic word inis, meaning “island,” and they were granted these lands by King Malcolm IV over 850 years ago. The house itself was built in the 1600s and later transformed into one of Scotland’s finest classical mansions. But one of its most fascinating stories lies hidden in its walls. During the Jacobite Rising of 1745, the estate is said to have played host to supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie as the rebellion swept through the Highlands. Like many great Scottish houses of the time, its halls witnessed some of the country’s most turbulent years. Look closely and you’ll also spot carved stone details, grand staircases and centuries-old craftsmanship that have survived wars, changing fortunes and generations of history. Standing here, it’s hard not to imagine the lives of the lairds, servants and visitors who once walked these same corridors. Innes House isn’t just another stately home—it’s a place where over 800 years of Scottish history still echoes through every room and every stone. #Scotland #outlander #History
