Not sure if anyone will see this comment, but I'm studying psych, and the emotional trauma this could cause would never allow it to pass as a legal experiment. Also, not a study, studies in psych involve not influencing outcomes, if you're manipulating the outcome, ergo the praise/non-praise treatment, it becomes an experiment. Furthermore, they don't have a control group, which they should.

I learned about something similar but with dogs. It’s called learned helplessness, and it usually happens when something bad is constantly happening to them and they can’t escape it. In the study with the dogs, one group was being constantly being shocked (not a deadly shock) without a way to escape it, while another group was also being shocked, but with a way to escape. Later on, they were put in a room where, if they jumped over a barrier, they could escape the shock. The dogs from the first group didn’t even try to escape the shock cause they didn’t think it was possible, while most of the dogs from the second group figured it out and jumped over the barrier. It’s often seen in kids who didn’t grow up in healthy households. They’ll apologize for things that aren’t their fault, or immediately shrink away if something bad happens.
