He said yes? Huh? NTA. If you’re cell phone is going to be the only way to contact you then no you have to keep it charged. You have to know where it is. If you want to use it as like a landline then keep it in the same place at all times with the ringer on and loud so you can hear it. Otherwise you can’t be mad if you miss important things. Like what if something happens the aunt is out of town? The parents will still not find out unless the aunt immediately comes home to tell them. If it’s just food poisoning that’s not something to drop a trip over and run home.

When you are sick enough to be in hospital for a wk you don’t need to take on your parents as a full time job because they can’t charge a darn phone. NTA.

NTA. it's unreasonable to expect OP to contact someone else and that someone else to go to them personally. Neither of my parents are tech savvy either but they either answer other get back to me within a few hours.

NTA if they are not tech savvy they should have a landline. My parents are the same and they have cell phones and a landline for this very reason.

nta, its could also be a safety concern for them to not have a phone charged in case they need to call an ambulance in an emergency.

I had a kidney stone and was in the ER for a few hours I called my mom and asked if they wanted to come and they were totally logical like”I’m just gonna sit in a chair and play on my phone”

NTA. It’s not 1980 anymore. Cellphones have been around long enough. My parents are in their mid/late 50s, they got their first cellphones mid 2000s, saying they’re older isn’t an excuse. But this is also telling that OP called for 2 days and the parents never even called back after seeing missed calls? If I saw someone I care about had been trying to call me multiple times I’d be calling back asap

NTA if they’re not going to have a house phone and everyone keeps telling them it’s an issue, they needed this. Better this than a true life or death emergency when they couldn’t be contacted. 50 isn’t that old and they don’t have to have a smart phone or anything but they at least need them charged and nearby
