@polispandit: Why are index providers bending their rules for SpaceX? S&P and NASDAQ will argue that they’re trying to accurately represent the megacap market in equities, but loosening their rules to accommodate SpaceX and other big upcoming IPOs also significantly helps their revenue models. Everyone gets richer while index funds become forced buyers of stocks that are currently losing billions of dollars in annual revenue. #investing #spacex #finance #lawyer #money
Because they will all make a ton of money before the stock market crashes

thats why I hold VTSAX. slightly less risky than SPY. def less risky than QQQ. if more people move to VTSAX than the S&P500 will go back to previous rules.

so I think this is problematic, because they still haven't turned a profit and too much of it is tied to government contractors...what happens during budget reductions...it leaves people holding under performing companies... people always have the option to buy something else

no worries :
Aren’t they undermining their own credibility? This may be a good move for them in the short run but it could also backfire if SpaceX and OpenAI turn out to be duds. What if the next Administration decides that SpaceX contracts didn’t follow the correct protocols and cancels them? So much risk…

is there a short-space-x index fund to hedge our portfolios?

Seems like a market opportunity to create S&P497 & Nasdaq 97 index funds

I think we have to be seeing the end cycle of mass passive index investing as the default. That stream is now actively being weaponised and adding (at the price it’ll be purchased at) clownish companies at large % of an already incredibly concentrated index. The more it’s deregulated and targeted, and the index becoming a “curated product” the less it can be used as default. Won’t be over night

Doesn’t that expose them and the listed companies to additional risk? Isn’t there a way to hedge that risk? Did Nasdaq hedge the risk of loosening the rules? If so fine, but if not I’m thinking it’s a dumb move, but smart people work at Nasdaq right? So then risks are hedged and the risk of introducing a liquidity sucker into the listing isn’t a big deal… right?

SpaceX, Anthropic, OpenAI between them have $4t dollars worth of early investor lock-ups that will get dumped on the market in 6 months. that $4t dollars has to come from somewhere to allocate to those trillion dollar stocks. think 🤔 about it, its going to be similar to the dot Com Bubble 🫧 post ipo's dump 💩

I'm very sure that on top of what you say people are bribed indirectly by getting stocks or options. Imagine what happens to the stock price by only putting 75 blns of "value" (4.5% of the total shares) in the market and then forcing SPY and QQQ managers buying up all of that after just 7 days! Corrupt as hell!

Space exploration has literally led to all kinds of advancements in our civilization. The ‘Why SpaceX chant’ that people keep rattling on about is a great showcase of ignorance I believe. They are literally one of the world’s largest companies if they achieve 80% of all content going into space. Simple math …control 80% of something …. You are winning.

They are also dramatically devaluing the value of their index. This is basically corruption.
A bit like the conflict of interest of ratings agencies during the GFC
