@thephysiochannel: Ulnar-sided wrist pain can be difficult to diagnose, but one commonly missed cause is pathology involving the Extensor Carpi Ulnaris (ECU) tendon. In this video, we explain ECU tendonitis (tenosynovitis), ECU tendon subluxation, subsheath injuries, and longitudinal tears of the tendon. #ECUTendon #UlnarWristPain #WristPain #ECUTendinitis #TFCC #SportsInjury #HandTherapy #Physiotherapy #MSKPhysio #WristInjury
I've had ulnar-side wrist pain for over 2 years. Ultrasound showed no significant tendon damage, although there was some inflammation around the little finger extensor tendon. X-rays showed some arthritis, but the symptoms don't seem to match a simple arthritis explanation.
The pain is triggered by things like turning a key, shaking water off my hands, holding a phone, typing and putting on clothes. Holding a phone in my left hand can make the back of my hand ache within seconds. I can still deadlift, row and do chin-ups.
I've tried continuing to use it, progressive loading exercises, and recently had a cortisone injection, but nothing has made much difference.
In your opinion, does this sound more like a condition that would benefit from reducing aggravating activities and allowing it to calm down, or from continued loading and rehabilitation? And what structure would you suspect is driving symptoms like these when ultrasound doesn't show significant damage?

Can a tfcc injury lead to an ecu injury or do they often coexist?
