Here comes a long answer from why they used the word "Shinka" that means "evolution" instead of "metamorphosis" there're 3 words that could be used for metamorphosis and I'll explain why each one was seen as a none option Henshin/transformation: When pokemon had its first game release, Japan already had franchises with this word as a symbol, like Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Magical Girls and tokusatsu in general. they wanted something more original Henka/change: It remembers a lot "Henshin", but it's more used to say "change" to anything, like humor, people, weather, mostly any thing, that's why it wasn't an option H**tai/metamorphosis: That's right, the first meaning of this word is "metamorphosis", but I'm pretty sure that I don't need to say why it wasn't an option that's why the team that works in the development of Pokemon games chose the word "shinka" that means literally "evolution" or more specifically "change to the next stage"
