My boy Murat’s DRIPPED OUT🤤🔥 . Context: Marshal Joachim Murat was known for his striking appearance and extraordinary outfits. As Andrew Hilliard Atteridge states, “Murat had a strong dash of dandyism in his character”. His uniforms were unique, custom-made, and thought through. For example, for the Warsaw Campaign, Murat prepared his own costume designed to resemble the semi-oriental style of the Polish nobility, as if he were “one of them”. He also paid close attention to accessories. When Marshal rode into Warsaw, “his charger's bit and stirrups were of gold, his saddle cloth a tiger skin, and he himself was ablaze with gold and colour”. A funny episode occurred on the morning of the Tilsit meeting, when Murat showed up in Polish dress and greeted Napoleon, perhaps reminding the Emperor of his ambitions to get a throne in Poland. In reply, Napoleon said: “Go and put on a general’s uniform. You look like a circus rider (franconi)”. Murat’s most noticeable feature, though, was his hair. Many people remarked on his curls in their recollections of the Marshal. He had a whole routine to style his hair in the morning. As for Napoleon’s reaction to allat, I can provide info from Mademoiselle Avrillion’s memoirs. She says that not only did the Emperor take “the subject of Murat’s costumes for the text of his jokes”, but he also mocked them “seriously and with bitterness”. We can’t take those words without a grain of salt, but considering the earlier“Franconi” comment, I can assume that Bonaparte probably sometimes joked about or criticized Murat’s outfits.👀 #historymemes #cosplay #napoleon #napoleonicwars #murat
