@sustainableoptimism: Except, I am not fine. I am not fine in any sense of the word. I guess a picture is worth 1000 words, especially if it’s a picture of words! #womenover40 #sustainableoptimism #perimenopause #menopause #womenshealth
I'm confused. That's a great response by your doctor. They explained why it's useless to check it, and asked you what exactly you're trying to find out.

The response was correct and appropriate for an asynchronous message. If you want to know his complete reasoning, that’s an appointment

Which hormones and for what purpose/symptoms are not only reasonable questions - they're required fields to put the order in at most EMRs

They have to give a reason regardless to get the insurance to cover it so this isn’t even a ridiculous response from the provider

they can't just order a test over a message being sent to them. Give some clarity and I'm sure they will send the order

You need an appointment and discussion. Not just to ask for labs?

Please remember we need to put a diagnosis code with labs ordered also that could also be why they asked

This should have been an appointment and not a mychart message. Depending on what you are worried. May be going on, having that conversation can lead to a more efficient diagnosis by including additional testing. Or save you time and money by not order unnecessary testing.

If you want your doc use their license to place orders, they will be the ones responsible for the results.

hey so kindly speaking, they're entirely correct. and that being said, I hope you were able to get an appointment to discuss the ins and outs of menopausal symptom treatment so you could get the treatment you need!

the thing with hormones is they fluctuate so often, it’s hard to pinpoint issues with them

Well I’m glad I read the comments. It’s posts like these that actually help me learn and thing or two. I would have felt this dr was insensitive and didn’t want to do anything either because NO ONE has ever told me these comments before. It’s nice to know that HRT is focused more on symptom severity, not hormone levels. Again, did not know this until these comments on a random TikTok post lol.

Of course checking would be beneficial because then it would allow you to get them up to the right amount. Just because you are post menopausal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to get hormones to feel better but you need tests to be sure you get the right amounts period.

Yeah I mean. Why test if you know that they’re low? If you need a baseline for Menopause Hormone Therapy, then sure. But just testing to know doesn’t make much sense

I mean I would respond with getting a baseline. See if there’s a correlation with alleviation of symptoms or worsening of symptoms and the level of a certain hormone. I hate when doctors don’t want to check/obtain more data.

I get both sides but I should have to justify why I want my own labs to be checked even if it just for my own well being and knowledge. Especially when things are missed by doctors on the daily
