@forlychess: To understand, you have to shift your perspective to a world where we know for a fact that Christianity is true. In this world, denying a cosmic authority isn't intellectual enlightenment; it's emotional survival. Confronting a flawless, omnipotent God who sees every flaw and demands absolute accountability is terrifying. By convincedly erasing the Judge, you successfully erase the judgment. Creating a paradox: to the atheist, the Christian is coping with the fear of death through the promise of heaven. But after the perspective shift, it becomes obvious that atheism is cope. An intellectual shield constructed specifically to escape the crushing weight of eternal accountability and the discomfort of absolute submission #hottake #debate #herecomethestickers

I’d agree with the argument if that’s were the case like in the caption where there is concrete evidence of a deity we can consistently/reliably identify. Kind of like how in dnd where there is deities that give magic and whatever to the world, and atheism would make less sense due to those elements reliably being called upon for their benefit or detriment that shifts what is known as natural order. But that isn’t the case for irl because we cannot actively can’t find consistent evidence for divinity as it’s all faith based. So we cannot derive any meaning besides “trust me bro”. And the argument of atheism being an emotional shield for a cosmic presence is a strawman that oversimplifies the reason why people believe a certain thing; also I believe it’s a misrepresentation of character portraying atheists as deviants. Besides atheism isn’t really a coping mechanism in the first place, it’s just a term for the lack of belief in something. I get the no god = no judgement argument, however it shouldn’t be a reason to not question reality and the teachings of a certain religion. Based on what I’ve looked up 78% of people in a survey believes they can be moral without a religion, which I believe says a great deal on how much atheists need a god for accountability which makes me believe that the emotional shied argument is flimsy due to how much it really doesn’t matter. It’s great people find solace in a deity in trying times, it’s just there are more ways to cope than religion.
