Daniels’ contact avoidance when scrambling out of the pocket is pretty sound. On designed QB runs it is atrocious. I see Blough limiting designed QB runs to very special circumstances. You were spot on about Kingsbury. He is not the man to take Daniels to the next level. If the defense can go from terrible to average they will be very competitive this year.

2025 was the opposite of 2024 for Washington. They had a far tougher schedule, injuries took out entire position groups early on (DE, WR, CB), and the defense regressed to league worst. They’re going to try to put less of the onus on Daniels (fewer designed QB runs and a more balanced run/pass attack); hopefully that reduces the risk of injury because he was never able to have a consistent stretch last year because of it.

It’s unlikely that JD5 will have a long sustained career because his slender frame is not conducive to his playing style. If he changes his style, he simply won’t be as effective. As tired as the comparison to RG3 is, it still is accurate. He’ll be out of football in 5 years.
