Hard disagree. You’re talking of a wedding, not a marriage. My parents were both dead by the time I was 24 and I also balked at the idea of a big wedding with lots of gaps where they should be. But I still wanted to be married to my love. Two witnesses, council office on a Tuesday lunchtime - perfect

Honestly, I got engaged in December and am now experiencing grief all over again at the fact that my dad won’t be there on the biggest day of my life, & it’s kind of overshadowing the whole engagement thing, to the point I am really not excited about it & I feel awful for feeling like that!

This but both my parents are alive and I'm merely grieving the parents I always wanted but never had. Marriage was never the priority. We finally married at our 12,5 year anniversary and are now married for 5 years, but without any of my family present.

I never saw my parents in the same room. They spoke so badly of each other so I knew we I could never have a wedding. tethered would be too much tension and drama. So that was never my path. Now I'm an orphan and in a relationship with someone who never wants to get married. So Ive never had the choice and hate being asked about it.

Girly I feel you. I’m an only child - lost my dad 4 years ago and my mum nearly 7 years ago. People don’t understand how much grief changed the way you respond to/deal with life milestones especially when your favourite people are gone. Big love to you x

Both our moms are still around. Both our dads are dead. We’re ok with waiting. Dad wasn’t there for my sisters wedding and that was heartbreaking enough even after 18 years…
