@timetothink07: “Jesus is the Sabbath.” This statement is becoming more popular among many Christians today. But the strange thing is, no one has clearly shown the verse where the Bible explicitly says, “Jesus is the Sabbath.” Yet the phrase is often used to dismiss the keeping of the seventh-day Sabbath entirely. Now don’t misunderstand me. Jesus is our rest. Jesus gives peace to the soul. Jesus saves us from the burden of sin. That is biblical. But saying Jesus gives spiritual rest is completely different from saying the Sabbath commandment no longer matters. The same Jesus people call “the Sabbath” is the very One who said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” The same Jesus kept the Sabbath Himself. The disciples kept it. The women who followed Christ rested on the Sabbath “according to the commandment” even after His death. And nowhere in Scripture did Jesus say, “I am now your Sabbath, therefore ignore the fourth commandment.” Be careful of doctrines built more on catchy phrases than on clear Scripture. Many Christians today claim the Sabbath was abolished, yet they still keep nine of the Ten Commandments. Nobody says: “Jesus is my honesty, so I can lie.” “Jesus is my purity, so adultery is acceptable.” “Jesus is my rest, so I can break the Sabbath.” Interesting. The Sabbath was never just about physical rest. It was a sign of loyalty, obedience, worship, and remembrance of the Creator. And in a world where man keeps replacing God’s commandments with human tradition, the Sabbath remains one of the clearest tests of submission to God. The issue was never whether Jesus is important. Of course He is. The issue is this: Why use Jesus as an excuse to remove one of His Father’s commandments?
