BJK :
I relate so much to this (even as a 59 year old). My mother never encouraged me dating in high school. In fact, when I did, my time spent with him was to be very limited. I never could understand why all my other friends could have their boyfriends and spend time with them. In my 30’s when I finally married - I finally got it. I travelled in my 20’s and had the BEST life experiences while my “friends” all had babies and never left this town. She wanted to the same for me as your mom. We are so lucky 🥰

I did this for my daughter. I forced her to go to the school not in our hometown. This way it was just far enough where she couldn’t drive home every weekend. She is flourishing and a rising junior in the fall. Loving life and has gained so much confidence.

Good for her for building a relationship that you respected her. My parents tried to do something like that at 18 I would’ve gone and married him the next day despite them.

My mom grounded me in high school until I broke up with my first boyfriend because she thought he was bad news. I thought she was evil for it then, but I dumped him and was ungrounded. I frickin love her for it now. He turned out to be reaaaallly bad news.

My Daughter did this on her own. She has a nice boyfriend, but he was holding her back. She had a ton of struggles when she was younger, and she KNEW… she had to break up with him, before college. Best decision she ever made. She is ON FIRE! ❤️
