Should not apply to teams that now own the pick due to trade. Like this feels like an easy fix

Not to mention, San Antonio is where they are because they had three top five picks in a row

Such bullshit and a horrible rule. Silver is ruining the league

Traded picks don't count. It's your own pick

If the pickets traded, it should be allowed to fall into the top five again because it’s not going to that team

If you have 2 guys making 40+Million a year, you should not be a bottom 5 team anyway. And with them no longer having that pick, the Jazz have no incentive to tank. So, regardless of the rule change, there is not a world where that pick becomes a top 5 selection unless there was some crazy lottery luck

Should be based on the original owner of the pick.

That makes no sense. It's no longer Utah's pick it is now Memphis's pick so that is probably not what's gonna happen because Utah is not gonna tank so Memphis gets a higher pick so that should not apply.

Dump the draft. Tie revenue sharing to win percentage. You’ll immediately end tanking and improve the sport.

I will never understand changing the draft rules. If you want a more competitive sport top to bottom and have smaller market teams you have to accept tanking as a reality. You think NFL players enjoy playing in Green Bay or Cincinnati? Fuck no, but the draft made both of those teams extremely relevant.

It’s the most favorable of Utah, Minnesota, and Cleveland, not just Utah, so this exact scenario where Utah is the worst of the 3 and is bottom five seems unlikely

Should have started as 2027 being the first year for it to start. All teams are at 0

the grizzlies did not make the trade expecting a top 5 pick. I don't know why people are talking like they are so screwed by this. they knew the jazz would be significantly better next year because of this trade

Imagine a rival now owns your pick and you tank so they wont get a top 5 pick lol

Jazz should at least be a play in team next year, so it shouldn’t really matter.

It’s genuinely stupid to punish bad teams for being bad, and on top of that to punish bad teams for making trades to try and get better. This is going to ruin the value of potential top picks for years to come

Zero chance this flies for this exact reason. Should only apply to your own pick.

Doesn’t the count start with this draft. So no top 5 picks in more than 3 consecutive drafts and the first teams being affected will be in the 2029 lottery

All picks already traded should be exempt. Sixers in similar situation. They own LAC unprotected first in 2028. LAC have 5th pick in 2026 so if they get another top 5 pick next year the 2028 pick the Sixers own cannot be top 5.
