@drea.nature.girl: I killed their lawn so they never have to mow again! This is a native lawn alternative full of carex and other low growing species. This lawn was barely used, not providing anything for the environment, and constantly being mowed. For what? I applaud this couple for taking the time, money, and energy to take a space that wasn’t beneficial and turning it into one that is more sustainable, biodiverse, and will create habitat for years to come. My appreciation for carex species has grown so much in the last year because of how versatile and resilient they are. They are truly beautiful as well! Btw all of these plants can handle moderate foot traffic once established. Can’t wait to hear what all the lawn lovers have to say 😂 #environmentalscience #ecology #botany #nativeplants #lawnalternative
A weed is just a plant growing somewhere deemed inconvenient

the day more people realize that native plants almost always require less maintenance than non-native species is the day i die happy 😭 it’s so logical, too. these plants have grown here independently for thousands and thousands of years. they won’t need to be watered or trimmed nearly as much as non-native species.

Why do you do native plugs instead of seeds? Sounds more expensive, more labor, and less ground cover.

Very interested in what the budget was for this project. Also do you source your plants from a local native grower or do you have your own nursery?

I have a gardening business and I’m trending towards doing the style of work. I haven’t gotten a project this large yet. One of the hardest things for me is how to price out a job like this.

This is great! I wish more people did this. I literally just stopped resodding my lawn every spring and let whatever wants to grow grow. I have the greenest lawn in my neighbourhood now and never have to water it 😊

We are slowly doing this per how my budget allows. Turned 2 separate flower beds i to one large one with varying ground covers. We decided to mulch to help control the weeds till the ground cover gets more established. Plan on doing a bed a year till my yard is full of native plants and trees, herbs and fruits and groundcovers and the non native grass is gone.
