A 90% nylon and 10% spandex blend is generally considered poor for everyday bedsheets. While this combination is fantastic for athletic wear or swimwear because of its stretch and durability, it is typically highly unsuitable for sleeping. The downsides of this fabric blend for a bed heavily outweigh the benefits:
• Poor Breathability: Synthetic materials do not breathe as well as natural fibers. A high-nylon sheet traps body heat, which can cause you to overheat and sweat during the night. Moisture Trapping: Nylon is hydrophobic (water-resistant), meaning it won't readily absorb your sweat. Instead, moisture gets trapped between your skin and the sheet, creating a clammy, sticky sleeping environment.
• Skin Irritation: Because it traps heat and moisture, a heavy synthetic blend can become a breeding ground for bacteria and allergens, potentially leading to skin irritation or rashes.
• Lack of Softness: Though nylon is silky to the touch, it lacks the crisp, cozy, and airy feeling that people generally look for in comfortable bed linens.
