@st.sisto: At first glance, this looks like a strange pink castle. But to a medieval Christian, every detail had meaning. Painted around 1330, this Gothic Annunciation shows the moment the Archangel Gabriel tells Mary she will become the Mother of Christ. Rather than creating a realistic house, the artist surrounds Mary with fortress-like architecture, symbolising her spiritual purity and protection. The white lilies Gabriel carries reinforce this message, serving as a reminder of Mary’s virginity and holiness. Long before Renaissance artists focused on realism, medieval painters used architecture, colour, and symbolism to communicate theology. Sometimes the most important details in a painting aren’t the people - they’re the buildings around them. The fact that the proportions doesn't fit , means it all about renaissance. Theo renaissance ancient in particular the north more then the south were directed to the Bible and spirituality. So we see here the Holy Virgin with the arch angel Gabriel. Both were very important figures in the renaissance , so that's why the are pictured in a large way, so to let see the audience that they were more important then the. building
