My 7 favourite iPad uses as an Architect 📱 I’ve had an iPad Pro in the studio for a few months and it’s taken a little while to find it’s place in my workflow. I’m still experimenting but it’s becoming integral to how I run projects. Here are the 7 ways I find it most effective: ➕ Ideation & Sketching It feels like I’ve almost replaced my physical sketchbook using Procreate, which I use for sketching initial ideas. Whilst i’ll always have a place for my paper sketchbook, the ‘undo’ button is forgiving! ➕ Design Options Using Procreate I regularly import estate agents plans and measured survey drawings for sketching over design options for remodelling, altering and extending buildings. ➕ On-Site Drawing Mark-Ups Before a site visit I preload my drawing sets to access when walking the site. It’s useful for presenting and quickly marking up with the client or contractor ahead of updating the drawings back in the studio. ➕Mobile Studio Management I use @notionhq to manage all aspects of the studio and the ability to check in on the go is super handy, especially to review projects, workload and to-do lists. ➕ Site Analysis Sketching Before I visit new sites I preload a satellite image to sketch over with initial site analysis and reflections. I then compile these findings into diagrams with more clarity when back in the studio. ➕ Scanning Floor Plans I’m still testing out MagicPlan, but from my initial use it feels useful. I use it to draw measured survey plans directly on the iPad (beginning by walking a room with the AR scanning tool then inputting accurate dimensions from a laser where necessary). The benefit is that it exports the drawing in dwg, avoiding the double handling of drawing the survey data in a sketchbook, and then transferring into AutoCAD. ➕Presenting 3D Models I find the SketchUp app useful for taking 3D models to client and site meetings and quickly flying around different spaces in real time. Do you have any iPad recommendations? #architecturetok #designtok #ipad #archipreneur #digitalsketching #notion #sketchup #magicplan #procreate
