The rain hammered against the floor-to-ceiling windows inside, the air tasted of expensive lilies and stale silence. Karina leaned against the marble kitchen island, her silk robe clinging to her shoulders. She watched the clock. Three o'clock. The doorbell chimed, a sharp, invasive sound that echoed through the hollow halls. Karina didn't move for a moment. She didn't need to check the security camera to know who it was. She opened the door to find Minsik standing on the porch. The younger woman was drenched. Water streamed down her sharp jawline, soaking into a black oversized blazer. She didn't hold an umbrella "Izumi isn't home," Karina said. Her voice remained flat, a polished stone. Minsik didn't flinch. A slow, thin smile touched her lips. "I know." "Then why are you here, Minsik? This is the fourth time this week." Minsik stepped inside, she just stood too close, smelling of ozone and something metallic, like copper. "I forgot something," Minsik replied. "Forgot what?" "A feeling." She crossed her arms, her posture a rigid wall of defense. "Don't play riddles in my house. Izumi is at her internship until six. You know the schedule. You're her girlfriend; you're the one who reminds her to eat." Minsik took a step closer. Her eyes scanned Karina—from the messy top-knot of her hair down to the bare toes pressing into the rug. The look wasn't accidental. It was a slow, deliberate inventory. "Maybe I'm tired of reminding her," Karina felt a prickle of heat climb her neck. She turned away, walking toward the living room, her robe fluttering behind her. "You're acting strange. Even for you." "Strange is a matter of perspective, Karina. Some call it devotion." Minsik followed her, her movements fluid and predatory. Karina could hear the rhythmic tick of the grandfather clock in the hall, sounding like a heartbeat. "What do you actually want?" Karina asked, finally turning to face her. Minsik shifted her weight. "I like the way this house smells when she's gone." "It smells like cleaning products and loneliness." "It smells like you," Minsik countered. Karina let out a sharp, humorless laugh. "I'm your girlfriend's stepmother. I'm practically her mother. Have you lost your mind?" Minsik’s expression didn't change. Her pupils were blown wide, swallowing the iris. "Biology is such a boring constraint, don't you think?" Karina stepped forward, her frustration overriding her caution. "Leave. Now. Before I call Izumi and tell her you're harassing me." Minsik didn't move. "You won't." "Excuse me?" "You're bored, Karina. You're starving for something that isn't a scripted conversation with a husband who spends more time in Singapore than in this zip code." Karina’s hand dropped. The accuracy of the strike left her breathless. "You know nothing about my marriage." "I know the way you look at the door every time it opens, hoping for someone who never comes. I know the way you drink your wine at noon. And I know the way your pulse is jumping in your throat right now." Minsik moved then, a sudden, blurring motion. She closed the gap, her hand slamming against the wall beside Karina’s head. The scent of rain and copper intensified. Minsik was shorter, but she seemed to tower over her, her presence filling the room. "You've been watching me," Karina breathed. "I've been studying you. Izumi is a sweet girl. She's a toy. A distraction." Karina’s voice trembled. "How can you say that about her?" "Because she doesn't have your edges," Minsik whispered, her breath warm against Karina's cheek. "She doesn't have that hidden rage. That desperation to be seen. I don't want the daughter, Karina. I want the woman who raised her into something I can use." Karina tried to push her away, but Minsik’s other arm locked around her waist, pulling her flush against the damp fabric of the blazer. The contrast was jarring—the cold, wet wool against the warm silk of the robe. #jiminjeong #winrina #au #fyp #fypシ
