Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had three perfect examples of three of the best villain types: the tragic villain with the relatable backstory, the villain who’s an unstoppable force of nature, and the villain who’s a complete bastard just for the love of the game.

The thing I liked about the last wish was that it had 3 different kinds of villains/antagonists. It had the sympathetic ones (goldi+bears), the one whims just following their nature (Death), and the one who’s evil for the love of the game (Jack)

The reason Jack Horner was loved so much because up til Jack every villain had this “I’m evil because *insert flaw about the system* and I’m trying to make a difference”. Now sure in the right circumstance it can work, but it was so overused. So having a villain that was evil for the love of the game was a breath of fresh air
