Can we take a moment to appreciate how Clark said “they feel no pain, they don’t feel fear” just for the red haired one (meant to be his ex wife) to yell and try to run out of the room the minute the pirate Clark started walking in. Like this story has insanely good psychological horror aspects and the tension built up over the course of the film was incredible.

I just felt like there wasn’t quite enough character development between the the Clark we see before and after the therapist enters the backrooms. It just seemed to skip over a lot of the development needed to justify his complete insanity during the dinner scene.

I love the movie, but at the same time I feel like people have to give the director some Slack again. This is his first ever feature movie. You can’t expect him to have Tarantino level director

Clark WAS psychologically troubled, in the sense that he couldn’t assimilate his failures, or at the very least position himself in them. The backrooms make a manifestation of his failure: a gimmick pirate, surrounded by dreams of architecture and common furniture.
