That looks like a "Worst case scenario" quote. They probably quoted out the links so when they break taking them apart they are covered. If it was an honest shop and they didn't break, they would take it off the final bill.

The sway bar links are quoted with the struts because hardly ever can you remove the link without damaging them in order to get the struts changed.

Made the mistake of going to a muffler shop. They wanted to replace the whole exhaust pipe instead of doing a few welds. Quoted me $3500. Waited to take it to my usual guy (he'd been slammed so I didn't want to bother him) and it was $150 for those few welds. The whole pipe didn't need replaced.

Once went to a dealership and they tried charging me 340 for an oil change. when I told them I had half off oil changes through them they came out and said they found other issues that needed "urgent maintenance" never went back

Do the breakdown and keep your margins the same. Don’t lower mark ups because it is a friend, keep it as you would with any other customer.

if I called a car for lower control arms I'm putting new links on it whether the old ones are good or not sometimes they don't come apart and get destroyed just maybe a reason they priced up a certain way
