My head canon is that she was always meant to have Hydranoid as her Guardian bakugan and Masquerade was supposed to have Reaper be his. Alice doesn't like to brawl but we've seen that Hydranoid has asked Alice to battle and she obliges, Masquerade and Reaper share similar traits, both arrive to send bakugan to the doom dimension (Afterlife), both are ruthless and only care about winning.

1 season is peak it had plot, characters, animation and an actual battle system, based on tactics and strategies everything after S1 is money print targeting toddlers , where battles won by whoever shouts abilities louder

Actually, Runo's trial goal was that she admitted that she had romantic feelings for Dan (the Japanese episode has an additional scene where Runo throws hearts while declaring her love, which become the shield that reflects Lars Lion's arrow attack)
