The Department of Transportation issued a public apology on Thursday over a viral social media post showing some MRT-3 staff holding tarpaulin signs to direct passengers to the functioning escalators of the Shaw Boulevard Station. “The actions of the station supervisor involved were not authorized by MRT-3 management and were immediately stopped the moment the management learned about it,” the statement read. The DOTr-MRT-3 management also apologized to the involved personnel, saying that it was “not part of their function.” Meanwhile, uploader Cadmiel Pabellan, who posted photos of the incident, shared that he first encountered the MRT-3 staff doing the task on January 28, 2026. He also witnessed the incident on February 10 and 11. “Not only is it inhumane, it is so degrading as an employee. But it is alarming na the two incidents involving signs for two consecutive days eh ‘hindi aware’ ang DOTr na nangyayari iyon sa Shaw Station ng MRT-3,” he told The Philippine STAR. “It took two weeks before napatigil yung paghahawak ng tarpaulin just because people voiced out of it on social media. That tells a lot about our transport sector - no inspection of the day-to-day routine,” he added. This marked the second time the MRT-3 faced public backlash. Last Sunday, netizens criticized the rail line over a controversial sign posted along one of the Shaw Boulevard Station’s escalators that read, “Each step you climb is a gift to your heart, lungs, and muscles.” #philippinestar #newsph #mrt3 #train #transportation
