While high end electronic warfare gets all the headlines, Russia’s new Yolka system (which translates to "Christmas Tree") is taking a more direct approach: kinetic interception. Unlike traditional jammers. The Yolka is a portable anti drone launcher designed for rapid response on the front lines. Here’s why it’s trending in defense tech: Fire and Forget AI: The operator manually identifies the threat, but once launched and the interceptor uses an AI based homing system with a bi spectral (thermal and optical) seeker to track the target autonomously. High Speed Impact: It can accelerate up to 200 – 250 km/h. Allowing it to chase down reconnaissance drones and "Baba Yaga" heavy bombers. Kinetic Strike: It carries no explosive warhead. Instead, it relies on pure kinetic energy to ram and destroy the enemy drone, making it a low cost, reusable style solution for modern drone warfare.
