@sakulacostar: Life in Okinawa 🌺 A few years ago I made the decision to prioritise the other half of me after living in New Zealand for over 20 years. I think this goes for a lot of people who grew up in multiple cultures, family scattered in different countries and languages you no longer need to use; the feeling of missing home while being home. The more time I spend here the more I realise how important this was for me, not to just visit but really be here. Using the language daily, spending time with my grandparents and elders and learning as much as I can from them first hand. I’m still learning but I hope to share with you some of the many gems I’ve picked up in my time here, and maybe inspire you to reconnect with your roots too. 🌱 #okinawa #ryukyu #沖縄 #wasian

The Okinawa are famed for their longevity , namely among other things reliant upon their diet of over 50% being sea vegetables, pai Ana to hikoi tupuna wairua e te Wahine… seek balance amid two ancient cultures and take the best of both… a rangatira recently passed away in Japan, rangatira porahau Ruka , he was accorded a ceremonial funeral at one of the sacred temples in Japan, he has been flown back to Nu Tireni, hokingamai mai te wenua tupuna, there is much more to seek … look into your whakapapa o Okinawa re Nga tangata Ainu:)…Further look into the ancient connection between the Emperor of Japan and Tohu Potiki Ratana… a profound relationship that transcends time…when the Emperor meeting Tahu Potiki Ratana found out about his miraculous spiritual and healing powers said words to the effect…”if I had your powers I would rule the world” upon which Te a rangatira Tahu Potiki Ratana said …” that is why you were never given those gifts “ te hei Mauriora !

It is honestly so important to ask elders for their stories while they are still here. I wish I had taken more advantage of the wisdom, knowledge, and history my grandparents provided. Storytelling and embracing the true history is a form of resistance against colonialism and imperialism. So happy to be able to follow you and watch you on this journey! さくらさん、チバリヨー♪
