New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he is reviewing whether his administration could arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his upcoming visit to the city. Speaking to the New York Times, Mamdani said he believes that “Netanyahu belongs in The Hague”, adding: “He’s a war criminal who has been charged ... and what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many, purely because of what his actions have wrought over these past many years”. Israel denies allegations of war crimes and has previously rejected the ICC’s jurisdiction, while the court said Israel’s acceptance of its authority was not required.
