Strategic Air Command days. The Air Forces mission was much different then. The threat of the USSR meant we needed a fleet strike package which the b36 filled till the role was taken over by the b47 and b52.

This is wrong the jets were designed to help on take off and allow to rush speed when going into territory. It actually switched off its jets during flight

Flew two A-Bombs to Kadena USAF on Okinawa during the Korean war while use of the bomb was debated. My dad ran into the bomb techs whom he knew.
