TON-618 is one of the most mysterious and impressive objects known to modern astronomy. It is an exceptionally bright quasar-the active nucleus of a distant galaxy-harboring an ultramassive black hole at its center. Light from this object takes over 10 billion years to reach Earth; consequently, astronomers observe it as it existed in the distant past, when the Universe was only a fraction of its current age. TON 618 is best known for the incredible size of its central black hole. Current estimates place its mass at tens of billions of times that of the Sun, making it one of the most massive black holes ever discovered. For comparison, the supermassive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy has a mass of about four million Suns; thus, TON 618 is thousands-or even tens of thousands-of times more massive. If this black hole were placed at the center of our Solar System, its boundary-known as the event horizon-would extend far beyond the orbits of the outer planets. Although the black hole itself emits no light, TON 618 is one of the brightest objects in the Universe. This is due to the vast amounts of gas and dust swirling around the black hole. Driven by immense gravity, this material accelerates to tremendous speeds and heats up to millions of degrees. This process creates an accretion disk that radiates enormous energy across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. It is this disk that makes the quasar bright enough to be observed from such a vast distance. Studying TON 618 helps scientists better understand the growth processes of supermassive black holes. One of the key mysteries is how the object managed to attain such immense mass in the relatively short time following the Big Bang. Standard models suggest that black holes grow gradually by consuming surrounding matter and occasionally merging with other black holes. However, the dimensions of TON 618 are so vast that they compel scientists to revise certain concepts regarding the formation and evolution of the early Universe. Furthermore, TON 618 offers an opportunity to study extreme physical conditions that cannot be replicated on Earth. Near its black hole, gravity is so intense that it significantly warps space and time. If a hypothetical observer were positioned near the event horizon, time would flow differently for them than for an observer located far from the black hole. Such effects were predicted by Albert Einstein's theory of relativity and are confirmed today by numerous astronomical observations. TON 618 was discovered during sky surveys in the latter half of the 20th century; however, it was only through subsequent research that the object's true scale was revealed. With advancements in telescopes and spectral analysis techniques, scientists have been able to estimate the velocity of matter orbiting the black hole and use this data to determine its mass. Although mass estimates continue to be refined, TON 618 remains one of the record-holders among known black holes. #ton618 #blackhole #horror #scarytiktoks
