@hocus_pocus_guide: This is a really interesting interview with Sarah Jessica Parker from October 1993, where she talks to Bob Costas very candidly about how “Hocus Pocus” was a disappointment, also saying that “Disney made a business decision” to cut a lot of the witches’ material from the movie and make it more “child friendly”. It’s fascinating to hear her discuss this, knowing now how much of a huge hit the movie would eventually become. While lots may have been edited out, the tone of the witches is still quite sinister. You can feel how they were playing them. It adds a darkness to the cheesiness. The sequel misses the mark completely.

and Disney did it AGAIN with the sequel. A massive generation of grown up fans wanting a darker edgier version that leaned into the cooler dark elements of the first but instead it just pandered to a non existent children's fan base
