Canopy is usually determined by genetics and fruiting conditions. But nutrition plays a part too

Mike Klawuhn :
depends on what strains you're growing certain strains desire other grains

Psycho myco :
have you ever tried no soak no simmer and I highly believe cloning and genetics play a bigger part in it all than the grain but I also use a 3 grain mix of popcorn, barley and millet

also I've had more contam rates with sterilized sub than pastureized subs but thats just my experience

genetics, proper fae and humidity, and yeah grain to sub ratios. I think all play a part. the Milo/millet does provide more innoculation points, and maybe the entire grain can be consumed easier since the fungus doesn't have to eat away a ton to get to the center of the grain. it makes sense to me. lol so smaller grain seems smarter, more innoculation points and possibly more nutrients utilized. I like the smaller grains. Iv also noticed when I have higher grain ratios i get full tub a little better.
